Kollam constituency has no
candidate with a criminal antecedent

Kollam
Lok Sabha Constituency has the distinction of being the only
constituency in Kerala where none of the candidates for current
elections have criminal antecedents.
This is when as many as
13 of the 20 constituencies have all candidates belonging major
fronts (UDF, LDF and NDA) having criminal antecedents, as per
data published by the Election Commission of India. The crimes
they are accused can vary from serious offences to those
resulting from participation in various agitations.
In Alathur
constituency, only one candidate (Ramya Haridas, INC) has a
criminal antecedent. Kozhikode, Ponnani, Chalakkudy, and
Kasaragod constituencies have two candidates each with criminal
antecedent.
Candidates of major
political parties with no criminal antecedent include K.
Radhakrishnan (CPI-M, Alathur), Prof. C. Raveendranath (CPI,
Chalakkudy) M. V. Balakrishnan (CPI-M, Kasaragod ) and M. T.
Ramesh (BJP, Kozhikode).
In Kollam constituency,
N. K. Premachandran (RSP) and actors M. Mukesh (CPI-M) and G.
Krishnakumar (BJP) are the main contestants. There are also nine
other candidates, of whom five belong to registered political
parties while the others are independents.
Prominent leaders with criminal antecedents reported to the
Commission include Rajiv Gandhi, Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Rajeev
Chandrasekhar, K. C. Venugopal, Dr. Thomas Isaac, K. K. Shylaja,
K. Sudhakaran, M. V. Jayarajan, K. Muraleedharan, Benny Behnan,
Dr. M. P. Abdussamad Samadani and Annie Raja. Suresh Gopi and
Anil K. Antony too have criminal cases against them.
